An inclusive, heart-centered ceremony with Dr. Daniel Foor

Water is necessary, water is life. In Yorùbá traditions, we say òmì ò lotá, “Water has no enemies.” This is true for the rivers of my home in Western North Carolina (USA). This is true for the rivers of the Yorùbá homeland in Southwest Nigeria whose bodies are still praised as deities like Ọ̀ṣun, Yemọja, Ọya and many others. And this is true for the holy rivers, lakes, and sea waters of Finland. Water is holy and those who stand in opposition to the health of the waters position themselves in tension with life itself.

In this inclusive, heart-centered, family-friendly ritual, we’ll give praise and reverence to the holy waters who are the Gulf of Finland. These sacred waters suffer desecration from eutrophication from phosphorus and nitrogen and toxicity from mercury, copper, petroleum, pesticides, etc. There will be a brief teaching on Yorùbá traditions of honoring the waters (Daniel is an initiate in Ọ̀ṣun priesthood, a prominent water deity), time for listening directly to local water spirits, and time for song, praise, and making ecologically mindful offerings.

No prior experience with ritual needed, all welcome, no cost. Feel welcome to bring locally sourced, biodegradable offerings (e.g., flower petals, dried herbs or natural incense, small portions of fresh fruit). We’ll gather at 19:00 at Villa Lill-Kallvik and walk together to the nearby waters. Please dress for outside ritual, arrive on time, and allow for a return back to the Villa around 21:00-21:30.

Daniel will also be leading an ancestral healing weekend in Helsinki (Vuosaari) on Saturday-Sunday August 17-18 (Event Page FB Event Page) and co-leading a teaching on honoring ancestors of the land with Tuomas Rounakari on Aug 14th in Helsinki (Event Page & FB Event Page).

This event is free, register below or just arrive at the event.
